Biology
Edit
Moschops belongs to Synapsida, a group of endothermic tetrapods ancestral to mammals. It lived on Earth during the late Permian period. The Moschops of FMM-UV 32 is significantly smaller than its Earth counterpart.
Moschops is a heavily-built herbivore with a massive girth, allowing for fermentation of large amounts of plant matter. It feeds almost exclusively on soft plants like ferns, though it may be capable of carnivory in times of extreme famine.
Carnivorous Moschops
Edit
One incident of Moschops carnivory has been reported during the early days of the first hunting program. In the Woods of Turan Choks, a novice hunter on his first expedition was tragically attacked by the beast. The individual Moschops in question displayed an ability to leap on its prey, which it used to knock the hunter off his feet, breaking his spine under the animal's weight.
About a decade later other reports of predatory Moschops began flowing in, though none of these individuals displayed any ability to jump. The existence of Moschops with a predatory attitude was never fully explained, and scholars over the years have attributed it to a variety of reasons, from a rare genetic mutation in the herbivorous species, to deliberate genetic engineering by DinoHunt Corp or a third party.
Official Appearances
Edit
Moschops is an ambient animal in Carnivores and Carnivores 2, where it appears as a timid, harmless herbivore. The first "Carnivorous Moschops" incident was the result of a rare glitch in Carnivores, which occured only once in the game series' history.
Other Appearances
Edit
- Moschops is an ambient in Carnivores Reloaded, a remake of Carnivores using the Carnivores 2 engine.
- A reskinned Moschops with a bright orange skin tone was an ambient in the first incarnation of Carnivores Triassic, though it is absent from the second incarnation.
- Dead Moschops appear as map objects in Basmachee Rocks.
- Dead Moschops, which have been reskinned to look like skeletons, appear as map objects in Panerimos and Tatem Wastes where they are used as generic synapsid skeletons.
- A custom "Carnivorous Moschops" model, which fits the AI spots of Allosaurus and Velociraptor in Carnivores 2, was released by ibuildcircuits in honor of the infamous Carnivorous Moschops glitch.
Trivia
Edit
- In Carnivores 2, the Moschops is misspelled "Moshops".
